Information - GD19 Active and Passive Continental Margins: Geodynamic Models
Event Information
Continental Margins is characterized by high seismicity, volcanic eruptions and natural cataclysms hazardous for the people living there. It is also area of recent intense tectonic movements and hydrothermal processes, place of accumulation of different kinds of useful minerals.
The major tasks of the research are (a) the deep structure beneath seismic hazardous zones, volcanic areas, mineragenetic fields and sedimentary basins; (b) the determine the role of the deep processes going on in the upper mantle specifically in the asthenosphere, in the formation of major structural units of active continental margins.
The program of the symposium will include results from recent and paleo-subduction zones, accretion complexes, forearc basins, volcanic island arcs and back-arc basins.
