Information - IS43 - NP4.02/CL55 Statistical analysis of climate time series (co-organized by NP & CL)

Event Information
This session is positioned at the interface between Statistics and Climatology. To have any success chances, the analysis of climate time series has to take into account the uncertainties in the climate system itself and in the measurements, and often also in the proxy quality and the dating. Climate records impose additional difficulties in form of:

(1) non-normal distributions
(2) autocorrelation and, often,
(3) uneven time spacing.

We welcome contributions that address those difficulties, that show a sound statistical basis of the methodology and also demonstrate the feasibility of the method in real-world applications. Methods may include, but are not restricted to:

(1) regression,
(2) correlation,
(3) spectral analysis,
(4) wavelets,
(5) nonlinear dynamical system analysis and
(6) extreme value analysis.

Data may come from:

(1) instrumental observations,
(2) proxy measurements,
(3) historical documents and
(4) climate models.
