Information - PLC10 Operational Hydrological Forecasting

Event Information
The main objective of this session is to provide a forum for the discussion of the present state of meteo-hydrological forecast chain, considering in particular their hydrological and hydraulic aspects and their effects on warning forecast system.
The scientific issues or questions that we expect to be addressed (but will not be limited to)are:
0) Which are the requirements for real time hydrological forecasts to support civil protection services?
1) How can we build an “Operational – Real Time - Hydrological Forecasting Chain”?
2) The sources of uncertainty in hydrological models - The implications of hydrological models being imperfect representations of real hydrological systems, but the necessity
3) Which types of observations can we useful assimilate into operational hydrological models?
4) How can hydrological uncertainty be accounted for? An deterministic versus a probabilistic approach.
5) How to measure – validate -performance of an operational hydrological forecast at different time and space scales?
6) What about uncertainty in discharge data and hydraulic modelling?
