  Information - HS20 Long term monitoring of sediment yield and sediment discharge (co-listed in GM)

Event Information
Monitoring of sediment yield and sediment and water discharge is important for a better understanding of sediment transport processes, for river engineering projects and for environmental management issues related to water quality.
Sediment transport conditions may differ substantially depending on the level of flow intensity. Other controls on sediment supply, transport and sediment yield include for example bed morphology, type of sediment, lithology and vegetation characteristics, as well as land and river management. Long term and detailed observations on sediment transport and sediment yield provide most comprehensive observations. Typically only a limited number of continuous measurements are available. For river engineering and hazard assessment purposes, sediment loads carried by flood events are therefore also of particular interest. Estimates of sediment transport conditions during flood events based on geomorphologic observations may be combined with findings from long term sediment monitoring to improve the analysis of sediment transport conditions.
In this session, contributions to the above topics are welcome for both upland and lowland rivers.
