Information - PS5.1 Space weather at other planets (co-listed in ST)
Event Information
The aim of this session is to review the state of scientific knowledge about space weather at planets other than the Earth, especially those likely to be targets for planetary exploration in the coming decades. The scope of planetary space weather covers much phenomena, including:
* radiation environments (cruise phase, in-orbit and on surface) relevant for effects on spacecraft systems and living organisms
* ionospheres (relevant for effects on lander communications and orbiter radars)
* upper neutral atmospheres (relevant for drag effects on orbiters)
Given the context of EGU the session should focus on understanding the science of space weather effects in planetary environments, i.e. building up the knowledge that will underpin future applications. Speakers are encouraged to discuss not only what is well-known now but also to indicate open areas where research is needed.
