Information - OS11 Mediterranean Sea: a laboratory for interdisciplinary studies and climate research - A tribute to Michel Crepon (co-listed in BG & CL)

Event Information
The Mediterranean Sea has been the site of intense observing and modelling studies of basic ocean dynamics and locally important phenomena such as deep water formation processes, coastal trapped waves and wind and heat flux driven ocean gyres circulation. Prof. Michel Crepon has been the main actor in the past twenty years for the understanding of this basin dynamics and we would like to honor his work in this session.
The aim of the session in general is to start a phenomenological and methodological synthesis toward the understanding of the coupled physical, sedimentary and ecological processes in the Mediterranean open ocean and shelf areas. In order to do so, papers are invited that describe the physical, sedimentary and ecological subsystems in different regions of the Mediterranean Sea. The main aim is to discuss in these subsystems the coupling between physical-chemical-biological and sedimentary processes at the level of ecosystem functionality. The time scales of interest go from the short (mesoscale) to the multidecadal, capturing the climate veriability for all the system state variables.
