  Information - HS5.1 Science for improved sediment and habitat management in aquatic ecosystems (co-listed in GM & SSS)

Event Information
Sediment management represents an important component of river basin management. It focuses on areal diffusive processes, such as soil and pollutant losses from the catchment, as well as on linear transport processes in the draining river system. A wide range of relevant methodologies and modelling tools exist for describing and estimating these processes and for understanding system dynamics. Contributions should focus on: (1) the application of methodologies and models within the decision making process to manage river basins in terms of sediment and pollutant relocation; (2) relevant measurement and monitoring techniques to develop sediment budgets and linked pollutant loads; and (3) ways to integrate environmental, economical and societal sediment functions as part of sustainable environmental management.
