Information - AS1.12 Climate and Weather of the Sun-Earth System (co-listed in CL)

Event Information
It has become evident in recent years that the terrestrial atmosphere is influenced
by the Sun in a much more complex and significant way than hitherto anticipated.
The solar signal is deposited and redistributed in the atmosphere - from the
troposphere up to the thermosphere - by various physical and chemical mechanisms,
most of which are only poorly known. A better understanding of theses processes is
also important for a comprehensive analysis of anthropogenic changes in the
atmosphere. Therefore, SCOSTEP has recently initiated a new scientific programme
called CAWSES (Climate and Weather of the Sun-Earth System). The purpose of this
session is to bring together scientists from various atmospheric science
disciplines to study the Sun/Earth system.
