Information - MPRG18 Mechanical and fluid transport properties of upper crust rocks

Event Information
The understanding of fluid transport through upper crust rocks and its reciprocal relations to the mechanical behavior is of crucial importance to both geology and geotechnics. This is particularly true when the evolution of a structure needs to be predicted at geological time scales, as for example in the case of long term nuclear waste repositories. The problematic combines geological, mechanical and physico-chemical aspects, which make its complexity. Thus, the session intends to bring together researchers from different communities, because the progress in this field requires the different and complementary points of view of geological, geochemical and mechanical disciplines. We, therefore, acknowledge any experimental, theoretical or computational contribution addressing long term creep, fluid and ionic transport in porous rock media, interactions of fluids with rocks and their consequences on mechanical properties and the influence of rock deformation on the evolution of porosity and permeability.
