Information - GD18/G2 Ice-Mass Fluctuations and the Dynamical Responses of the Solid Earth (co-organized by G)

Event Information
During the last glacial cycles, the repeated growth and disintegration of
large ice sheets was responsible for global mass redistributions between
oceans and continents. The solid Earth responds to these cyclic mass changes
by dynamically adjusting its shape and rotation.

Various field observations document the dynamical response of the solid Earth,
e.g. ancient strandlines, present-day crustal deformations, and changes in the
Earth's geoid and rotation. Within the framework of modelling the glacial
isostatic adjustment process, these field observations are compared to model
predictions, and constraints on both the ice-sheet history and the structure
of the solid earth are derived.

For this session, we invite researchers involved in the observation and/or
modelling of both past and present ice-ocean mass balance and the geodynamic
signatures associated with the mass exchange.
