Information - OS2 Open Session on Coastal and Shelf Seas

Event Information
The purpose of this session is to improve our knowledge about various aspects of functioning of shelf seas. We welcome studies on the physical processes as well as their interactions with biogeochemical process over the continental shelf, shelf break and continental slope. Contributions are invited on both theoretical and observational aspects of material and energy exchanges caused by currents, eddies, tides, and turbulence and their impacts on the ecosystem components. Special attention will be given the analysis of differences and similarities of semi-enclosed and marginal seas (e.g. Black Sea, Baltic, North Sea, Mediterranean Sea) in terms of their dynamics and biogeochemistry. We will discuss implications of climate change for shelf sea dynamics and processes over steep slopes. In this session we encourage discussions of pump-priming projects and innovative ideas. This session also provides a forum for exchange of expertise related to the system studies and inter-disciplinary research.
