Information - CL24 The Indian-Atlantic Ocean connection: modern processes and past mechanisms (co-listed in OS)

Event Information
There is increasing evidence the exchange between the Indian and the South Atlantic Oceans south of Africa is playing and has played, an important role in the present and past global ocean circulation and hence in climate. Our understanding of the dynamics and origin of the exchange has advanced enormously in recent years due to satellite and hydrographic observations and modeling. On the other hand, the exploration of paleoceanographic observations has given fascinating new insights on the role of this ocean area in the past.
With this session we aim to bring together the physical, ecological and paleoceanographic communities to further our understanding of the role of this ocean area in the global climate system and to determine which processes and mechanisms are responsible for this role.
We invite abstracts for the oral and poster sessions on observations and modeling of all aspects of the interocean exchange between the Indian and the Atlantic Oceans, including present day processes, paleo-oceanographic work and/or modelling studies on timescales from human to orbital and sub-orbital. We look forward to receive your contribution to this session.
