Information - CL37 The Miocene on land and in the oceans (co-listed in SSP)

Event Information
The Miocene is marked by several important changes on Earth: an early to mid-Miocene warming followed by rapid cooling and Antarctic ice sheet expansion, a change in continental vegetation, a late Miocene increase in marine biological productivity (the “Biogenic Bloom”) and ongoing cooling, and onset of upwelling systems.
This session aims at bringing together researchers using terrestrial proxies (e.g. from paleobotany and soils) for climate and other environmental data with marine geologists, paleontologists, and numerical modellers in order to improve our understanding of Miocene climate changes. We invite presentations focusing on all aspects of Miocene climate development, such as, for example, quantification of mid-Miocene warming, reconstruction of pCO2, terrestrial and marine carbon isotope records, organic carbon sequestration, ocean circulation, marine productivity, and the role of uplift and weathering
