Information - SSP27 Dynamics of intra-continental basins -- from extension to inversion

Event Information
During the last decade deep seismic lines became available in several basins such as Mona Lisa, DEKORP Basin’96, and DOBREflection in Europe, indicating deep reaching deformations at the crustal scale. These deformations, however, do not necessarily correspond to the complex deformation patterns within the sediment fill which frequently indicate temporal changes of local subsidence and inversion as well as strain localization. Only the detailed study of sedimentary architecture and tectonics as well as salt and fluid dynamics provides the necessary resolution to understand and model basin evolution through time. Bringing together crustal scale deformation and sedimentary response is a current challenge as the classical basin models do not always fit the data properly. The session welcomes different complementary scientific results aimed to incorporate a wide variety of processes related to basin evolution and to identify the perspectives for further developments.
