Progress in the understanding of both the rates and duration of lithospheric processes can only be obtained by integrating geochronology, petrology, and structural geology. For many applications these data have to be combined on a mineral to thin-section scale. Both microsampling and in-situ techniques may enable us to directly link geochronology to other important sources of information such as phase petrology and deformation. Here we invite theoretical, experimental, and empirical contributions that describe key applications of geochronological techniques and address the behaviour of different isotope systems during crustal metamorphism, magmatism, and deformation.
Presentations may contribute to (i) techniques and observations designed to link high precision ages to both magmatic and metamorphic petrological data - either improvements in our petrological understanding of accessory phase chronometers or attempts to date major mineral phases, (ii) closer links between structural (solid state reactions, fluidsolid interactions, meltsolid interactions), petrological (metamorphic reactions) and geochronological information, e.g., direct dating of deformational episodes or establishing duration and rates of tectonic events, (iii) advances in our understanding of the diffusive and advective transport of geochronolocically important elements and isotopes, and (iv) studies using innovative interpretation of geochronological data to constrain timing, rate, and duration of metamorphic, tectonic, and magmatic processes and their interrelations.
