  Information - AS2.05 Interactions and Feedbacks between Land Ecosystems and Atmospheric Processes (co-listed in BG & HS)

Event Information
The Earth’s environment is a complex dynamic system. The numerous processes that take place in the atmosphere and the terrestrial ecosystems are linked and have an effect on, for example, atmospheric composition, climate, vegetation, and human health. Due to the complicated linkages, feedbacks and teleconnections, new integrated research approaches are needed. To be able to study the various interactions, several disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, meteorology, hydrology, and ecology need to be combined. This can be achieved by joint research activities that combine a variety of experimental and observational approaches, analytical methods, and modeling techniques.

The session is open to all contributors that (1) study how interacting physical, chemical, and biological processes transport and transform energy, momentum, and materials through the land-atmosphere system, (2) examine the implications for the dynamics of the Earth System, (3) investigate how the terrestrial ecosystem-atmosphere system functioned under pre-industrial conditions, and how human activities are influencing it, and (4) explore to what extent the biota determine its physical and chemical environment on various temporal and spatial scales. The session is organized by iLEAPS, the Integrated Land Ecosystem-Atmosphere Processes Study, a core project of IGBP, the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme. The session will include solicited review presentations.
