Information - HS6 Tracing the runoff generation process - integrated experimental investigations from plot to catchment scales

Event Information
Runoff generation processes remain to challenge hydrologists: The contribution of different runoff components, the interplay between hydrological and hydrochemical processes, scale effects, etc., are addressed in many studies. In this session we invite experimentalists to present their results of process studies across scales. Investigations on the interaction and dynamics of surface and subsurface flow are envisaged. Application of methods for tracing and identifying runoff components (hydrochemical and tracerhydrological studies, irrigation experiments, geoseismic and geoelectric investigations, etc.) should be reported. Especially the benefits and inconsistencies of combining different approaches should be emphasized, and new methods of processing heterogeneous experimental data should be presented, e.g., process oriented models that incorporate experimental research results and/or use soft data for constraining surface and subsurface flow. We particularly invite presentations on failures and flops where experimental and modelling studies have turned out to be different from what has been anticipated, in order to assist the hydrological community in future project planning.
