Information - TS3 Ocean plates at subduction zones: from trenches to deep slabs

Event Information
from trenches to deep slabs

Contributions dealing both with observations and modeling of the dynamics of subduction zones are encouraged. Regional studies are welcomed since they provide important data that can enlight processes like : accretion, tectonic erosion or plate coupling at trenches, intra-plate deformation and seismicity. We consider a large spectrum of direct and indirect observations obtained from field and marine geological, geochemical and geophysical investigations. Any presentation that can address the geodynamical context - oblique subduction, strain partitioning, seismic coupling, plates kinematics - of the Dec. 26, 2004 Northern Sumatra M9 earthquake is welcomed. Analog and numerical results help to understand the complex interaction between the converging plates and the convecting asthenosphere.
