  Information - NH12 Interoperability and data access requirements for disaster reduction and emergency management (co-listed in GI)

Event Information
Reducing the impact of disasters involves a
comprehensive knowledge of the hazards themselves, the human and
infrastructure elements at risk, the vulnerability of those elements,
our ability to deliver reliable alerts, prompt and effective response,
and community education. All these place heavy demands on access to data
- both in terms of the wide range of data types, the diversity of data
sources, and response-time requirements. As a consequence,
knowledge-based decision-making in emergency management is an
outstanding example of the need for open access to data and
interoperability. This session will cover aspects of the data and interoperability needs of effective emergency management.
