Information - SSP11/TS1 EUROMARGINS: The Eduard Suess Session on Processes shaping Margin Systems

Event Information
A EUROMARGINS Open Session:

In his monumental master work ‘The Face of the Earth’, the eminent Vienna geologist Eduard Suess has formulated visionary thoughts on fundamental topics ranging from the tectonic nature of Europe’s margins to the role of the ‘Biosphere’, a word that he had coined in 1875. A similar holistic vision drives the EUROMARGINS programme, trying to elucidate the full spectrum of interacting processes controlling the genesis, development and ultimate shaping of Margin Systems, with emphasis on the European margins: the rifting and thermal evolution of passive margins, the puzzling tectonic systems of convergent margins on Europe’s southern flank, the drive of fluids from reservoir to surface, the surface expression of fluid flow, the response of biogeochemical and sedimentary systems, etc. The EGU 2005 "Eduard Suess Session" will be an open, multidisciplinary forum for contributions responding to this exciting topic, not only with a EUROMARGINS focus, but from margin research worldwide. The oral sessions will give the floor in a privileged way to PhD and postdoctoral researchers.
