Information - ST5.3 Coupling processes in the middle atmosphere, thermosphere and ionosphere (co-listed in AS)

Event Information
One challenge in understanding Earth's middle and upper atmosphere is its coupling with the regions below and above. The session invites papers discussing such coupling processes on various spatio-temporal scales using ground- and space-based measurements, theory and modelling results.

Main topics are the dynamcis, composition and structure of the MLT region and the effects of solar and galactic cosmic radiation on the neutral and ionized upper atmosphere. This includes aspects such as tides, planetary waves and gravity waves; chemistry; heat sources and sinks; and the interaction of the various processes involved. Contributions aimed to bridge the gap between the global-scale observations of satellite instruments and the local observations of ground-based and in-situ instruments are also welcome.
