Changing climate has a strong impact on permafrost areas all over the world and a better understanding of the processes is needed. This includes the polar regions, as well as high and middle mountain ranges, where isolated permafrost occurrences can be found in many different forms. This session will deal with theoretical and observational studies concerning all types of permafrost occurrences and their interactions with past and present climate. Special emphasis is on modelling of atmosphere-cryosphere interactions, climate feedbacks of permafrost and permafrost induced natural hazards. Besides, studies concerning technical improvements for permafrost detection are highly welcomed.
