Information - HS30 Remote sensing in hydrology: space observations and field experiments (co-listed in AS & GI)

Event Information
This session will bring together research in hydrological remote sensing with emphasis on recent satellite data and field experiments. There have been several new satellites launched in the last few years, e.g. Grace, Envisat, Terra and Aqua, which have sensors that make observations of hydrologically relevant parameters. In addition there have been numerous field experiments which have brought together data measured from different platforms, including tower-, aircraft-, and satellite-based measurements. Contributions are encouraged that examine the results from these varied measurements from the satellites and the field experiments, the use of remote sensing in hydrology, the integration of remotely sensed measurements with measurements at different scales, and application of remote sensing methods to surface water problems. Previous sessions have covered such diverse topics as: land cover/ land use, snow and ice cover, soil moisture, surface water and rivers, evapotranspiration and other components of the surface energy balance etc. These results were from a variety of sensors covering the wavelength spectra from the visible to the microwave.

Preliminary List of Solicited Speakers
Dr. Dara Entkhabi - Estimation of land surface heat flux based on Remotely Sensed Observations
Dr. Rick Lawford - Integrated Global Water Cycle Observations and GEO
Alfonso Calera and Anne Jochum - Results from the DEMTER project: Space assisted Irrigation Management.
