  Information - IS29 - NH1.1/AS4.08 Precipitation Science (co-organized by NH & AS)

Event Information
OVERVIEW
This session on PRECIPITATION SCIENCE will consist of six (6) sub-sessions involving both oral and poster presentations. The six sub-sessions will focus on scientific themes and technical topics in theoretical, observational, and modeling research concerning precipitation properties, precipitation and water cycle processes, precipitation and water cycle trends and variations, and the nature of hazardous precipitating storms -- in the context of the international Global Precipitation Measurement and Global Water Cycle programmes. Observational emphasis will be given to remote sensing but not restricted to remote sensing.

SUB-SESSION TOPICS
The six sub-sessions will focus on the following topics (whose titles may be refined in response to submitted abstracts):
(1) Remotely-Sensed Precipitation, Storm, and Water Cycle Observations -- Current and Future;
(2) Roles and Applications of Precipitation Observations in Hydrometeorology;
(3) Precipitation and Water Cycle Processes in Climate System;
(4) Physical Properties, Processes, and Scaling concerning Precipitation Production, Precipitation Microphysics, Storm Life Cycles, and Water Cycling;
(5) Linking Observations to Modeling and Model Simulations in Climate, Weather, and Hydrometeorology; and
(6) Regional Characteristics of Precipitation.

ORGANIZATION
For this session, the conveners will solicit invited and regular speakers for each of the six sub-sessions, as well as poster presenters. We will also gladly accomodate both regular speakers and poster presenters based on unsolicited submissions, and look forward to a lively set of oral and poster sessions.
