Information - BG4.01 Biodiversity and biogeochemistry in terrestrial and semiterrestrial ecosystems (co-listed in CL, OS & SSS)

Event Information
This session focuses on the linkages between the biodiversity in soils, marshes and sediments and the multitude of ecosystem services that they provide and maintain. We want to address the connection of invertebrates, microbes, plant roots and nutrient dynamics. Studies on patterns and function of biodiversity, on methods for its assessment and on the regulation of processes are welcome. In particular we invite contributions on new concepts in biodiversity. We are interested in relationships between the food web and nutrient cycling, leaching, carbon storage, greenhouse-gas fluxes and ecosystem remediation. The reaction of organisms to environmental impacts such as climate change, land use change, and pollutants may be assessed. Hence we want to deepen our understanding of biodiversity as a mediator of ecosystem resilience and sustainability.
