Information - IS31 - NH2.5/AS4.02/HS3.5 Flash floods: observations and analysis of atmospheric and hydrological controls (co-organized by NH, AS & HS)

Event Information
The forecasting and management of flash flood hazards and risks is a critical component of public safety and quality of life. Flash-floods develop at space and time scales that conventional observation systems are not able to monitor for rainfall and river discharge. Consequently, the atmospheric and hydrological generating mechanisms of flash-floods are poorly understood, leading to highly uncertain forecasts of these events. This session welcomes all aspects of atmospheric and hydrological studies directly related to flash floods. Both observational techniques (radar, satellite, lightning, post-event surveys, etc.) and modelling studies (cloud-scale, meso-scale, hydrology, etc.) are of interest to this session.
