Information - ES5 Opportunities and Challenges for International Educational Experience

Event Information
Education of young geoscientists for citizenship in the 21st century is likely beyond the resources and capabilities of a single college or university. This session intends to attract novel approaches to introducing teachers and students to international issues and global perspectives. As we prepare scientists that will be able to use their observations to help influence global policy we must endeavour to create new approaches to education involving international issues. There exist regional expertises that would expand the educational opportunities and introduce global perspectives to students. As well, new technologies and approaches to convey course material, perhaps across distances of thousands of kilometers, will undoubtedly change traditional teaching styles most frequently seen at the university level. Speakers in this session will report on approaches to bring the international perspective into the classroom. This may include, but not be limited to, programs of international, field-based science or exchanges for undergraduates to real-time teleducation instruction. Contributions are encouraged from all levels of educators in the community from primary to university classrooms.
