  Information - BG4.02 Soil erosion and landscape scale carbon dynamics (co-listed in SSS)

Event Information
In recent years there has been an increasing recognition of the role that soil erosion plays in cycling carbon through landscapes: erosion acts as mechanism for the removal of carbon from soils, but also a means of adding carbon through sedimentation. Soil erosion is also a transport agent responsible for delivering carbon to fluvial systems and may expose calcium rich subsoils leading to losses of carbon from the terrestrial system. There are also feedbacks to the carbon cycle through effect of erosion on soil productivity and through carbon’s stabilising influence on the soil. In this session we hope to explore some of these processes and their interactions with a view to better understanding landscape scale carbon dynamics. We seek contributions from those carrying out experimentation, measurement and modelling.
