Information - GD09 Ice-Mass Fluctuations and the Dynamical Responses of the Solid Earth (co-organized by G)

Event Information
Glacial Isostatic Adjustment and the related gravity change in once deglaciated areas can be observed with high-precision geodetic techniques. Interpretations and modelling of the phenomenon are improving year after year. It is now time to integrate the geodetic, climatic, seismological and geological interpretations including kimberlite-hosted mantle xenoliths and thermal and petrological models of the upper mantle. The Baltic Shield hosting this phenomenon, has a quite well studied crust and upper mantle, for which petrological and thermal models are available. In spite of long
and accurate time series and extensive data sets, there exist many open questions in lower crust and upper mantle dynamics, rheology and composition, rebound mechanisms and rebound models, ice thickness during the late Quaternary, and Quaternary climate in general.

This session, co-organized by Geodesy (G), Geodynamics (GD),Climate: Past, Present, Future (CL), and Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology & Volcanology (GMPV), provides a forum for interdisciplinary discussions on the current status and achievements concerning the ice age and the postglacial uplift. Topics include upper mantle dynamics, composition, physical properties, temperature, and rheology, postglacial rebound observations and models, ice thickness models, sea level variations, Quaternary climate variations and Weichselian (Laurentian and other) glaciations during the late Quaternary.
