Information - TS30 Precambrian geology: similarities and differences with recent tectonic evolution

Event Information
This session invites contributions that help to understand Precambrian orogens and any similarities or differences that they might have with modern tectonic settings. In particular we invite contributions that address (but are not limited to) the following issues:
1. Recent advances in our understanding of Precambrian tectonics – new data, the relative importance and geometry of subduction and accretion in Precambrian orogens.
2. Structure/composition and evolution of Proterozoic orogenies in South America, East Africa, southern India and Northern Australia – including deep expression of surface steep belts/strike-slip faults and locations of major structural vergence boundaries or suture zones.
3. Role of mantle/lower crust in influencing overall crustal architecture in Precambrian terrains.
4. Comparison between ancient and modern tectonic settings.
Researchers in a variety of disciplines (geophysicists, structural geologists, petrologists, isotope geochemists, geochronologists) are encouraged to participate in this session.
