Information - SSP17/TS2.4 EUROMARGINS open session: Processes of rifting, sediment transport, fluid flow and biogenic activity (co-organized by TS) (co-listed in BG & CL)

Event Information
The EUROMARGINS open session addresses topics ranging from the tectonic nature of Europe’s margins to the role of sedimentary processes and the deep-sea biosphere in climate change. The session is requesting presentations from both Geo- and Bio-scientists involved in research of European margin interacting processes with emphasis on the rifting and thermal evolution of passive margins, the puzzling tectonic systems of convergent margins on Europe’s south flank, the drive of fluids from deep areas to the seafloor, the seabed expressions of fluids, and the response of biochemical and sedimentary systems to various forcing mechanisms including climate. The forum is to provide a presentation and discussion about current knowledge including technologies for deep to shallow geo- and biosphere research on margins. This session offers in particular an overview of the EUROMARGINS programme, which is financed by national funding agencies from 10 European countries (FWO, Belgium; CNRS, France; DFG, Germany; CNR, Italy; NWO, the Netherlands; NFR, Norway; FCT, Portugal; CSIC and MCYT, Spain; VR, Sweden; NERC, the United Kingdom) and the European Science Foundation (ESF), thanks to contract ERAS-CT-2003-980409 of the EC, DG Research.
