Information - G11/GD12 Geodynamics and Deformation of the Europe-Mediterranean Region (co-organized by GD) (co-sponsored by GD)

Event Information
The plate boundary zone accommodating the convergence between Nubia/Arabia and Eurasia is a complex deformation zone including a wide range of active geodynamics processes, inheriting from a multi-staged geological history. In the past years, spatial geodetic techniques have dramatically improve our ability to monitor crustal motion at various scales and have revealed the complexity of the present-day kinematics in the Mediterranean and its surroundings. Despite those progresses, the deformation still needs to be quantitatively assessed in many parts of the plate boundary and the link to dynamics still remains to be understood. This session solicits contributions on new observations of crustal motion in the Europe-Mediterranean area. We invite papers concerned with the tectonic interpretation of observed velocity and strain rate fields in relationship with the past-evolution of the Mediterranean. In general, we welcome contributions that focus on the link (at any scale) between surface kinematics and the dynamic processes driving the deformation in the crust, lithosphere and mantle.
