The fortress of Savona Priamar is an imposing structure overlooking the city center from the old port, on the hill that bears the same name. It was built in 1542 on a hill (where there was already in the medieval heart of the town of Savona) from the project of Giovanni Maria Olgiati by the then Republic of Genoa when it had control of the city after the killing of free common needed to establish points of defense against possible attacks from the sea.
In the seventeenth century it was equipped with ramparts designed by the King of Spain's engineer Domenico Sirena. In the eighteenth century the palaces of the commissioner and officers and that of the Sibyl (the latter chosen as location of the conference) were built.
