MedCLIVAR-HyMeX-MedFriends

MedCLIVAR-HyMeX-MedFriends side event on the recovery and extension of precipitation time series.

Presentation

The 11th Plinius Conference on Mediterranean Storms hosts a "MedCLIVAR-HyMeX" workshop in cooperation with MedFriend, which is dedicated to the recovery (MedCLIVAR action) and extension (HyMeX initiative) of precipitation time series.

This MedCLIVAR-HyMeX workshop is meant to offer a forum for discussing the present state of data recovery initiatives aiming at improving the present knowledge of time-space distribution of precipitation in the Mediterranean region. It is important to improve spatial coverage density since the second half of the 20th century and also explore the potential for long "historical" instrumental time series. On the basis of the existing datasets and initiatives, this workshop is meant to provide indications for future coordinated actions. The involvement of North African countries is crucial for the success of this scientific effort.

The meeting is also meant to discuss the optimal strategies for making those sets of data freely accessible by researchers.

The programme includes presentations by P. Alpert, I. Braud, M. Brunet, V. Ducroq, Khalid I. Elfadli, E. Ferrari, A. Jansa', P. Lionello, J.L. Pedroso de Lima, M. Turkes and C. Zerefos.
