Today Münster is a modern city with 280,000 inhabitants and the lively heart of a region of more than 1.5 million people. In comparisons with other domestic and international cities, Münster continually receives acclaim – repeatedly selected as the most bicycle friendly city in Germany, twice named the European climate capital, and also awarded the 2004 LivCom Awardfor theworld’s most liveable city (in the 250,000–700,000 inhabitants category).

Shopping and Nightlife in Münster


A unique shopping world unfolds in Münster's historic city center. Elegant designer clothes shops, venerable jewellers and delightful antique shops stylishly line the Prinzipalmarkt. Shopping is a real pleasure in the extensive pedestrian zone and the cosy side streets. With bookshops, sophisticated department stores, and markets, Münster's shopping center is right in the middle of the historic city center, and is just waiting to be discovered.

Cultivated breaks are part of the Münster way of life. Take a break from your stroll around the city and enjoy the view from one of the many street cafés. The Kreativkai, Münster's old docks area on the Dortmund-Ems canal, has also developed into a popular spot for night life.
