2nd Media Announcement
The second European Planetary Science Congress (EPSC) will take place at the Kongress Hotel am Templiner See, Potsdam, Germany from Monday, 20th August to Friday, 24th August 2007. Approximately 500 planetary scientists are expected to attend.
The Congress will include 40 sessions featuring the latest research on missions and techniques, terrestrial planets, atmospheres and oceans, magnetospheres, planetary moons, small bodies, the origins of the Solar System and laboratory and field techniques. Highlights include presentations by Professor Bernard Foing of new results from the SMART-1 lunar mission and the rationale and roadmap for future lunar exploration.
The general public are invited to a talk on Tuesday 21st August given by Professor Tilman Spohn of the DLR Institute of Planetary Research. The theme of the talk, which will be held at 07:30 pm in the Kongress Hotel, is "To the Moon and beyond: German and European perspectives of the Solar System exploration" (Zum Mond und weiter hinaus: Deutsche und Europäische Perspektiven der Erkundung des Sonnensystems).
The EPSC 2007 is organised by Europlanet, the European Planetology Network in association with the European Geosciences Union.
Media representatives are cordially invited to attend and press room facilities will be available for the duration of the conference – from 09:00 a.m. on Monday 20 August through to 03:00 pm on Friday 24 August. The press room is located in room 0229 of the Kongress Hotel. Media registration is free. Any bona fide media delegates can pre-register online or by e-mailing Anita Heward at anitaheward@btinternet.com (Advance registration is not essential but encouraged).
Press notices on presentations that may be of special interest will be circulated under embargo during the week before the Congress. The content of each press notice is embargoed until 00:01 a.m. on the day of the presentation at the EPSC 2007.
