The 10th EMS / 8th ECAC will be held 13 – 17 September 2010 at Zürich, Switzerland.

The thematic focus of these meetings is High resolution climatology – towards climate change services.
The Opening Session (Monday 13 September 2010 – morning) will see presentations on different aspects of this theme.

There is a growing awareness that climate and climate change have and will have a strong impact on society's safety, environment, health and economy. Liable services based on a better monitoring, understanding and improved prediction of weather and climate on the short, medium and long term  is vital to adapt to present weather and climate and to develop adaptation strategies for future weather and climate.

The conference will serve as a platform for policy makers, practitioners and researchers to communicate about ways to strengthen the production, availability, delivery and application of science-based climate services, supporting the user to adapt to today's and future climates.

The core issues to be addressed are:

  • Generation and dissemination of relevant data
  • Advancing climate science
  • Developing climate change services
  • Dialogue between providers and users
  • Outreach

Registration

Credentialed journalists and public information officers of scientific societies, educational institutions, or government agencies may register for the 2010 EMS & ECAC as members of the press at no charge. A business card must be presented. Freelance science writers must present a current membership card from EUSJA, NASW, NCSWA, CSWA, ISWA or SEJ or evidence of a by-lined science story published in 2009 or 2010.
