AC1 – ExxonMobil Short Course – 12 and 13 April 2008
" Integrated Basin and Play Analysis"

ExxonMobil is conducting a two day short course entitled “Integrated Basin and Play Analysis" prior to the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) on 12 and 13 April 2008. It is designed to teach students both the fundamentals and basin analysis and play as they relate to hydrocarbon exploration and development. The course will consist of lectures and practical exercises. On completion of the course, participants will understand the geological processes underlying the concepts of basin development, how to predict hydrocarbon play elements and how to integrate the play elements into a play summary which will allow them to predict which areas are most favourable of hydrocarbon accumulations.

The course will be taught by Bob Stewart and other technical experts from ExxonMobil. Bob is a company expert in regional geology and integrated play analysis. His current position is the European Geoscience Recruiting Coordinator.

Sessions on both days will take place between 09:00 and 17:00 at the NH Danube City, Wagramer Strasse 21, 1220 Wien. The course is only open to geoscience students and is free of charge. AC2 – Bayesian uncertainty analysis in hydrological modelling (11 – 13 April 2008)

2 days short course especially for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, to be held by invited lecturers on the weekend before the General Assembly (Friday afternoon to Sunday noon, 11 – 13 April 2008).

Target audience

PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers who, having had some exposure to the problems of uncertainty in hydrological modelling, wish to learn tools and techniques to better assess and quantify such uncertainty in their modelling applications.

Objectives

The participants will understand the subtleties of state-of-the-art Bayesian uncertainty quantification methods in hydrology, see their potential, shortcomings, and know how to apply /adapt them to their own modelling problems.

Course form

  • 4 half days,
  • 1 working block for discussing the problems the participants are working on,
  • 3 blocks for theory / current science questions / examples (more details to come soon)

Fees & Registration

The course receives a very high interest and the number of places is limited. With the registration, a fee of 110,- Euro per participant will be charged to cover the organisational and credit card expenses. Please contact the organizers regarding the registration.
