The FCFM is one of the ten Faculties of the Universidad de Chile. It is devoted to the formation of engineers and scientist with a strong background in basic sciences as well as knowledge in applied sciences and technologies. Its about 200 full time professors also perform world level research and are engaged in more than 7 Ph.D. programs and 27 MSc Degree programs organized by the graduate school. In addition to seven engineering departments, the FCFM also include the Department of Geophysics and the Department of Geology where Andean related studies are among the most important topics in research. LogisticsSantiago de Chile Santiago is the capital and biggest city of Chile with over 5,000,000 people. You can find almost everything you need in this city. Important center of the country, historically most of the economic, administrative, cultural, commercial, industrial and political activities have always been carried out in Santiago. Several airlines have direct flights to Santiago from several European, US, and Latin American cities. Near the foothills of the Andean mountain range, just in the Central Valley, the city is located 543 meters above sea level, presenting a light slope from east to west. The overwhelming presence of the mountain range can be appreciated in the valley by San Cristobal and Santa Lucia hills. The Mapocho River crosses the city from east to west; in old times, it had its overflow stream on what is now Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins Avenue, riverbed that was filled by the end of last century. Please check with the Consulate of Chile in your country if you need VISA, and if you need to pay any fee upon your arrival to Santiago (for instance, US citizen need to pay a "reciprocity" fee). If you want to extend your trip and enjoy our country, please visit Gochile (there is plenty of practical info there) or the Servicio Nacional de Turismo. The AvH4 will take during late spring (recall we are in the Southern Hemisphere) and we expect mild-to-warm, pleasant weather for most of the time. Mean temperatures for November range between 15-25°C, and there is hardly precipitation by that time of the year. You can check the weather forecast at the Weather Service.
